Somehow there is a universal need to belief in something higher than us. Worries and fears are easier to bear when we embed them in a story, a story we believe in. We tell each other stories about mystical places, about higher authorities we can turn to, stories that give meaning to life and its events.
In this exhibition, I tell you the story about the Holy Vulture, a higher entity we believe in. Observe the birth of the Holy Vutlure and listen to the voices from people around the world who have visited the Holy Vulture on a mystical greek island, sharing their intimate sorrows with the almighty holiness.

The Animals
Famished…frightened…fatigued…the animals
come into focus. Reproachfully, they watch
our movements, our actions. Powerless.
Collaborating with sound-designer
Wenke Kleine-Benne, we have created
deep sound sketches for the twelve
animals displayed. The visual component
juxtaposed with the aural, provides an immersive backdrop to a real problem
that exists outside the gallery door.
Statement Wenke Kleine-Benne | Sound Design
With these sound designs we want to
surround the drawings with further dimensions
to enhance their expressiveness. Through the
acoustic extension of a time sequence and
a
spatial depth the animals seem come to life. The animals seem to be moving in space. Their static standstill receives emotions. Their fragility receives a force. And the viewer is given back the patience
to dive into the details of the drawings and
to internalize them. The analogue
naturalness in the visual illustration of the
animals is countered by electronically
processed soundscapes, which aims to
restore the link between nature and our
digitally shaped lifeworld.
